• Assignment 2: what could be an ethical delimma you face in your business (15-30 min)

After you read the Ethics chapter, think of a ethical challenge you or your business will face soon. How do you think you will deal with it? Insert an entry to your blog.

After reading the chapter, I find that the ethical issues are:

1. “Environmental issues—pollution, toxic waste dumping, animal rights;
2. Corporate restructuring—layoffs;
3. Employee privacy issues—AIDS, drug testing;
4. “Diversity issues—race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation;;
5. Sexual harassment;
6. Conduct of multinational corporations (MNCs)—bribery; and
7. Other—antitrust actions, predatory pricing, insider trading.”

Coffee + sushi business, we, the members set our minds that this type of business is to be our team project.   Assuming we are a corporate business, the number 2 above, “Corporate restructuring—layoffs,” our goal is to make profits.  As owners, we need to understand the social responsibility of business.  Such, when our business makes profits it benefits everyone, us the owners, employees, and the society because we create jobs for the society; we pay taxes to the government to support any social action, and etc.  As a corporation, we have to think about the benefit of stakeholders (i.e., customers, suppliers, employees, and local communities, also their owners), they are our responsibility.

In referring to the number 6 above, “Conduct of multinational corporations (MNCs)—bribery, we may face, relativism that looks into the right and wrong of the business and often business does not pay attention to in decision making.  At this point of time, our team still in the introduction part of the business, therefore bribery is at an early stage to be brought up.
