Wk 6: HR Group Assignment - Multicultural Conflicts

Oct/24/2011 Notes

Presents: James, Cristine, Eddie, and Margarita

Assignment: Your company is growing to 150 employees.  Being an international company, you have excellent employees from much culture background.  However, since about 1 year ago, they naturally break into ethics groups A, B and C.  The groups started to develop conflicts and hurt company communications and collaboration.  e.g. group A believes group B are too aggressive, group B thinks group C are too selfish, group C talks about how lazy group A is.

As the leadership, your group needs to solve the problem.  Apply the theory and the practices in the textbook to design a brief solution (200-500 words).  Insert the solution to your learning journal.

The company has 150 employees with excellent employees of different cultural background. However, conflicts begun to arise and affect the company’s communication and collaboration.  As the company’s leader, some techniques need to develop to solve the organizational problems.

Below are three-step techniques to solve the organizational problems:
  1. Problem definition
    • Know the source of the conflicts. It started with problems in
      • “Want Got Gaps”
        • what ought to be occurring, and what is actually occurring
        • find out what gap is?
      • “Level of Problems
        • within or between people
        • within or between groups
        • within the organization”
2.            Analysis
    • Understand the causes.
    • Knowing the management options.
    • By doing these, can easily confront and corrected through management action.
3.            Action planning
    • Create a plan
      • make a specific goals
    • assign activities
      • field trip
      • lunch gathering
    • develop
      • training
      • workshop
Our solution to solve the problem based on the three techniques as discussed above may be forceful and progressive.  However, as a leader of this company when conflicts developed from the beginning by groups A, B, and C stating that, A believed group B were too aggressive, group B thought group C were too selfish, group C talked about how lazy group A was.  An action may be a reward, a control, or a plan for an action.
